Synopsis
A Touch of Immortality is a Death Sentence
It was supposed to be so simple. You do a job, you make the meet, you get paid. As an experienced flipper, Jimmy “Skinny” Skinford knows the protocol all too well. Having said that, being kidnapped and forced to dig your own grave will spanner the nicest of deals in the sharpest of ways. But his fortune turns when a push of his dead mans shovel unearths the opportunity of a life time; a woman, buried but still breathing, who just can’t seem to die. Her mysterious gift extends to others through touch and in her company Skinny launches head first into a scheme of unparalleled mayhem. Coming face to face with the most depraved deviates of the criminal underworld, Skinny will have to pay his dues in order to make the meet, get his payload and have his chance at immortality. But this gift horse comes with plans of her own, and dark consequences that threaten to sever Skinny’s world piece by piece.

Skinford: death sentence is a thrilling, exciting and batshit insane sci-fi action crime film that is as close to a modern exploitation/ Grindhouse flick as they possibly come. Robert Rodriguez apparently has concurrention. It's great looking, cool as heck and although it's too stacked storywise, that doesn't mean it all falls flat. A lot about it, plotwise, is interesting and engaging. It's wildly entertaining, too with all its crazy, bloody violence and insane plot devices. However, it's definitely too chaotic at times, and the final act wasn't exactly as strong as the rest of it, mostly because of that. It added stuff that didn't necessarily enhance it. In the end I thoroughly enjoyed the total experience. It's a bonkers crazy…

You can't spell "human trafficking" without "fun". And this most certainly is. You know, this is another one of these movies I don't remember the Sound of Freedom crowd talking about it during their whole tantrum. It's a bit more than that with the whole like Happy Death Day angle. Actually, it's all over the place but all the ideas somehow gel together in a weird way.

The only way not to die a horrible death is to chain yourself to the same woman forever and ever?
Nice try, monogamy lobby.

Kind of all over the place; loads of characters and threads and things to keep track of few of whom have much screen time to develop relationships and characterization. We're covering a ton of ground through wild tonal shifts and it feels like the entire movie, not just the beginning, is in media res.
That aside definitely a wild ride, following a charismatic criminal with a heart of bronze, who gets caught between his sword wielding employer and a gang of little girls in neon wigs who are also human traffickers, and oh yea also the main thing is there's a super powered immortal girl that makes people immortal when she touches them and anyway he's trying to get money…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
As an Australian, I always enjoy championing our film industry, and the dozen or so movies that get made a year here. Coming across Skinford on Stan, I decided to give it a watch, and for a first time feature film that was clearly made on a modest budget, you have to admire the ambition of this gangster story that feels like a fantasy horror by way of the Aussie crime series Underbelly.
Going into Skinford, I knew nothing about the film. So I was taken aback by how bonkers this film was at first. Is the plot convoluted and messy? It is, and at times, it made no sense. The dialogue is also trying to be philosophical and comes…

World Premiere + Q&A
This is a local indie film, so I felt it was my responsibility to support this in any way I could. The crew talked about their difficulty getting the film made, the fun they had making it, and their hopes of making more. I fully support any Australian local efforts given how stagnant our film industry is, and think you should go support your local film industry.
The 'problem' is I thought the movie was sort-of terrible. The titular Skinford is a lowlife whose crimes finally catch up to him, and in our opening scene is forced to dig his own grave for a mobster. A hand suddenly springs out of the dirt behind him, and…

Like having sex wearing aviators: fucking cool.
Skinford Death Curse isn't high art, but it's high and that's all an indie action / horror film need be, especially if it's short on budget.
A young, distractingly handsome criminal wannabe looking to make some extra cash to save his terminally ill dad suddenly finds himself immortal, but only in the presence of a mysterious brunette who knows more than she's saying.
Everything about Skinford screams an instanty tinged yes. The little girl bad guy, the white slavery fanny pack, the truck car chase, the doctor healing himself... The story has twists and turns that all respect the logic of the universe it's created while at the same time is so over the top it keeps banging its head on heaven.
Skinford isn't a perfect film, but its shortcomings come from biting off more than it can chew, and that's the kind of fault that can't be faulted in film.

This has quite a fun idea. It's also kind of crazy, wacky and all over the place.
Now, it's not completely great, they could have notched everything up a level, but there sure is fun to be had and it is pretty enjoyable. -

I only realized about 30 minutes in that there was two movies before this so I feel like I missed some lore between characters. I’m also never doing the Aidan method for watching movies again.

This is just such a strange story.
It’s like an assortment of about 5 different story ideas, tossed into a blender and then presented here.
There’s never a cohesive storyline or plot. It’s just a succession of fragments that i guess maybe tie together?
But…it’s all well done, and looks great, and the actors are all giving it a go and doing really well with it. Plus, it moves at a nice pace and is always engaging, so it’s worth a watch.
Apparently, this is a retitling and rerelease of an older film simply called Skinford and it appears as if a sequel is already out, and I’m intrigued enough to seek it out now.
